Saturday Night Live: Luau

Our third Saturday Night Live event was a Hawaiian Luau. I think this was my favorite event — primarily because we saw the coolest performance ever!Here's a video recap of the event:My husband Albert joined the greeters and played the ukulele.The event was held after our Saturday night service. We had to have it in the worship center because we needed a large stage for the performance. On the side, the tables for food were set up.The menu was very tropical. The signs in various areas explained different elements of the event.We got a roast pig and thought it would be pretty cool to carve it live and serve people. But it would have taken way too long, so the portions were cut in advance.Dessert was something called cassava cake. I never had it before but it was amazing!There were yummy tropical drinks too!A side area had activities for the kids. They made parrots out of paper plates.We had an hour-long show of luau dancers. Tapua Productions is a group that takes people through a journey of Pacific islands and performs different kinds of dances from the different islands. They are outstanding. They perform at Downtown Disney and other large venues! It's also really cool that the leader is a Christian.They had different costume changes too. A live band played in the back and it was a wide variety of music. It was really interesting seeing the contrast in dances. The one below was a kind of war dance where the guys looked intimidating.At the end they had volunteers go up and try to dance.The event ended up running later than our usual timeframe because of the performance, but people stayed to watch and everyone I talked to said it was amazing. It was also one of our most highly-attended Saturday Night Live events!
